Unlike a submersible pump, immersible pumps can handle the corrosive nature of the liquid. The motor is mounted above the tank with an extended shaft to the pump end at the bottom of the sump. These pumps are built to resist clean or solids laden with corrosive, acidic, or alkali liquids.

They can be used in applications such as sump emptying, recirculation, and transfer. Since every sump is unique in size, vertical immersible pumps can be custom built to specification.
